One of Thailand’s oldest and most popular women’s magazines, Sakul Thai, on Wednesday announced its closure after 61 years in print, with the last edition to be issued on Oct 31. In a Facebook post, the legendary weekly magazine cited “economic conditions, changing consumer behaviour and the increasing number of circulation agencies” as reasons for shutting down. It said the role of magazines in print form had diminished in the age of digital media. “We embrace it with sincere appreciation as it reminds us that this path is not lonely but beautiful and warmed by reader kindness given to Sakul Thai throughout 61 years,” the announcement said. Is it possible to have Sakul Thai in the form of e-book?”Chantana Boon-Arj said she started reading the magazine when she was seven years old and had continued until she was 62, the same age as her beloved magazine.
